from different countries to vacation to the United States and share their culture and ideas through temporary

How to Prepare?
There are important tasks to cover before leaving for your host country including taking an orientation session, packing your luggage
and learning about the area in which you will be living during your WAT duration.
- Staying with friends or family? Or will you live at an affordable motel or hostel?
Where is the nearest metro station or bus stop? Plan your temporary housing and research public transportation, medical facilities and banks in advance.
- When packing, ensure that you have your important documents (Passport, J-1 Visa, DS-2019 Form, etc.) in your carry-on luggage. It's a good idea to
keep copies of these in your checked luggage. Keep the orginals safe while traveling.
- Ensure you have enough money to cover your expenses before you receive your first paycheck.
- Be aware of the laws of the host country. Drugs, drinking under the age of 21 and driving under the influence of alchohol are
illegal in the US.
- Ensure that you understand your rights in your host country and in the program, as well as your obligations.
